Né à Moscou en 1900, Nicolaï Erdman est auréolé du triomphe de sa première pièce, Le Mandat (créée en 1925 et jouée plus de 350 fois, avant d’être reprise dans toute l’Union soviétique), lorsqu’il donne à lire son deuxième texte de théâtre, Le Suicidé, au célèbre metteur en scène Vsevolod Meyerhold, en 1928. Mais la pièce est censurée par le pouvoir stalinien qui, dès cette période, s’enfonce dans la dérive totalitaire que l’on connaît. Ce n’est qu’en 1982, douze ans après la mort de l’écrivain, que Le Suicidé est pour la première fois représenté sur une scène soviétique. Si cette œuvre a connu une aussi longue période de disgrâce, c’est qu’elle ne se contente pas de brosser le tableau cocasse d’une communauté humaine. Elle parle également du peuple dans ses rapports au politique, dénonçant le régime d’oppression qui règne alors en URSS. L’histoire de ce « suicidé », de ce chômeur qui, suite à une envie de saucisson, se voit enfermé dans l’annonce d’un suicide récupéré par les défenseurs de diverses causes, mène à une spirale aux accents loufoques et métaphysiques.
Folie, vertige et plaisir du jeu
« Ce tourbillon de folie part toujours de la vérité pour aller vers le jeu, fait remarquer Patrick Pineau. Nous sommes embarqués dans un vertige incroyable, dans cette pièce où l’on ne parle que du quotidien, mais d’une façon décalée et fictionnelle. » Cette folie, ce vertige, le metteur en scène et comédien s’en empare pour donner corps au théâtre auquel il travaille depuis près de 20 ans : un théâtre concret et populaire. Un théâtre de troupe résolument ancré dans le plaisir du jeu. Ainsi, pour Le Suicidé, Patrick Pineau s’est de nouveau entouré des interprètes qui le suivent fidèlement de spectacle en spectacle (Hervé Briaux, Laurence Cordier, Aline Le Berre, Laurent Manzoni, Sylvie Orcier…), groupe d’acteurs que rejoint aujourd’hui Anne Alvaro. Ils sont dix-huit sur scène. Dix-huit à nourrir avec beaucoup de générosité cette représentation festive, musicale, colorée. Il y a quelque chose de clownesque, de forain dans cette proposition aux allures de cabaret. Quelque chose qui réjouit et qui touche à la fois, qui nous amène à réinterroger les paradoxes de l’humain.
