Comédie loufoque déployant une suite de quiproquos et de situations
vaudevillesques, la seconde des deux pièces écrites par Nicolaï Erdman (il fut
réduit au silence dès 1933) n?en est pas moins une charge cruelle et virulente à
l’encontre du système soviétique des années 1920. Le protagoniste central de
cette tragi-comédie politique, entraîné malgré lui dans le tourbillon de son
suicide à venir, devient du jour au lendemain le symbole de tous les
dysfonctionnements de l’URSS stalinienne et, de fait, le porte-drapeau de toutes
ses communautés en malaise. Soucieuse de stigmatiser « la dangerosité des
rapports que provoque un tel régime, le désespoir qu’il engendre, l’impuissance
qu’il procure », Anouch Paré élabore une représentation hors de toute
reconstruction historique, une représentation qui, entre accents tragiques et
élans comiques, pose le rire comme un élément salvateur, comme « une marque
de discernement et de vie ».
