NOUVELLE PRODUCTION / OPÉRA DE METZ
Après avoir ouvert sa saison avec le Triptyque de Puccini, l’Opéra de Metz Métropole propose un diptyque autour de celui qui est sans conteste son héritier le plus marquant, l’Italo-américain Gian Carlo Menotti (1911-2007). Sylvie Laligne met en scène deux opéras bouffe en un acte, qui sont parfaitement représentatifs de l’art du compositeur : à la vivacité dramatique de ses livrets, il joint une écriture parfaitement ajustée, ainsi que le ferait un (bon) compositeur de musique de film. Le Téléphone et Amelia al ballo (donné ici dans la version anglaise de sa création en 1937) sont des œuvres concises, rythmées et non sans humour : le premier met en musique le dialogue de deux amants perpétuellement interrompus par les sonneries du téléphone, le second est une sorte de vaudeville trépidant narrant les préparatifs contrariés d’une femme du monde voulant se rendre au bal. Une belle initiative de l’Opéra de Metz, qui remet ainsi Amelia à l’affiche… cinquante ans après sa création française dans le même lieu.
