Aujourd’hui largement méconnu, voire totalement oublié, Henri-René Lenormand (1882-1951) fut pourtant l’un des dramaturges français les plus illustres de l’entre-deux-guerres. Portées à la scène par les grands artistes de son époque (Georges Pitoëff, Gaston Baty, Firmin Gémier…), ses pièces révèlent une profondeur saisissante, une vision extrêmement inspirée des enjeux et des dérives existentiels qu’elles dévoilent. Injustement délaissée, cette œuvre mérite incontestablement d’être redécouverte. Car les trajectoires humaines dont elle rend compte, les réflexions psychanalytiques qu’elle suscite nous parviennent avec toute la force, toute la pertinence de leur lucidité. Vaste champ d’interrogations sur la question du temps, sur le pouvoir de l’imaginaire, sur l’existence des forces inconscientes ou paranormales, Le Temps est un songe nous place face au désarroi d’une cellule familiale menacée par une ombre invisible. Aux prises avec le climat délétère d’une Hollande humide et brumeuse, Nico, sa fiancée, sa sœur et leurs domestiques assistent ainsi à l’avancée d’un drame auquel ils ne peuvent se soustraire.
L’ombre grandissant d’une mort annoncée
De tableau en tableau, Romée (Océane Mozas) et Riemke (Valérie Keruzoré) tentent cependant désespérément de faire mentir leurs intuitions et leurs angoisses, accomplissant tout ce qui est en leur pouvoir pour écarter Nico (Richard Mitou) du sort funeste qu’elles pensent être le sien. Jouant sur la confrontation du réel et de l’illusion, la mise en scène de Jean-Louis Benoit — à travers d’astucieux effets de miroirs et de projections vidéo — illustre les lignes de partage et les doutes qui contaminent le quotidien de ce monde équivoque. Au centre d’un espace clos peuplé de doubles réitérant, calquant ou anticipant les gestes des différents protagonistes, Océane Mozas impose immédiatement sa présence singulière. Densité, fluidité, profondeur : elle est peut-être la seule, parmi les cinq comédiens, à investir pleinement, intimement, l’écriture d’Henri-René Lenormand. Car ses partenaires, ne parvenant pas toujours à s’affranchir d’un certain formalisme, peinent à atteindre l’aisance avec laquelle l’interprète de Romée se laisse traverser par la pièce, l’habileté avec laquelle elle fait naître le trouble, la noirceur et les incertitudes de ce théâtre de la désespérance.
