Il y a deux « sages sceptiques », installés dans un espace énigmatique. Il y a une femme, qui passe dans la rue, avant de se présenter à eux. Puis il y a d’autres êtres, qui eux aussi apparaissent : l’Homme sans montre, l’Impatiente, la Femme Sommeil, l’Homme en manteau d’hiver, le Parfait Inconnu… « Je pourrais dire que Le Temps et la Chambre est la pièce la plus étrange que je connais, confie Alain Françon. J’ai toujours eu en tête de la monter. (…) Botho Strauss déconstruit les logiques et les habitudes narratives. Il y a, dans son écriture, la verticalité qui fait décoller le propos et qui ouvre un horizon de sens. » Pour donner corps aux fulgurances de cette fantasmagorie théâtrale, l’ancien directeur du Théâtre de la Colline a réunit des interprètes de haut niveau : Dominique Valadié, Gilles Privat, Georgia Scalliet, Wladimir Yordanoff, Jacques Weber… Ces quelques noms, associés à celui de l’auteur et du metteur en scène, semblent déjà une promesse d’élévation théâtrale.
