Alexandre le Grand est tombé. Trahi par son armée. Le flambant conquérant d’hier, qui dévorait les plaisirs et les arts comme le pouvoir, avance vers l’ultime butée de la vie. Le vainqueur du grand Darius, de Babylone et Samarkand, le bâtisseur de villes et d’empire, est terrassé par la fièvre. Dans un dernier souffle de lucidité et d’humilité, il se présente à la mort, nu. Il lui raconte l’ivresse d’une existence d’errance guerrière, de victoires éclatantes, de furieux désirs et de farouches batailles. Pourtant, malgré cette rageuse fougue intérieure, sans doute n’a t-il jamais forcé le tracé de son destin…

« Alexandre est le personnage le plus paradoxal de notre histoire, sa modernité est absolue. On y reconnaît ce besoin de tout connaître, tout maîtriser, tout défier alors qu’on ne parvient à ne pas se connaître soi-même. » note le metteur en scène Michel Didym. Dans le décorum d’apparat qui enclot l’empereur, Tchéky Karyo porte les mots d’un homme tenaillé par la faim et la soif… Des mots d’humanité, de paysages, de mondes, de vie.
