Sa première saison a pleinement installé Philippe Jordan comme directeur musical de l’Opéra national de Paris. S’il a habilement relevé le défi du Ring la saison dernière, le chef suisse s’apprête à relever d’autres défis. Le premier, celui du répertoire, est déjà gagné, sur le papier au moins avec une saison pleine où il dirigera, outre Wagner, trois Mozart et trois Puccini : les trois ouvrages du fameux Triptyque – fameux mais, somme toute, assez rarement à l’affiche. Belle idée pour le chef que de lancer sa saison avec ces trois opéras en un acte qui sont aussi trois visions de l’art lyrique entre tragédie réaliste, conte moralisant et comédie jubilatoire, où Puccini porte par trois fois au plus haut point l’art de créer une atmosphère propice au drame.
