Trompettiste star dans son pays d’origine, où il a signé une douzaine d’albums généralement en bonne compagnie, Toku a enregistré en Europe, peu avant la pandémie de Covid, tout un disque pour lequel il s’était entouré de la fine fleur du jazz hexagonal, du saxophoniste Pierrick Pedron au batteur André Ceccarelli en passant par le pianiste Giovanni Mirabassi, entre autres. Adepte des ballades, chanteur comme son idole Chet Baker dans un registre soft et mélancolique (il a aussi publié un opus en hommage à Frank Sinatra), le musicien nippon peut enfin revenir dans nos contrées présenter le fruit de ces rencontres « In Paris », un hard bop de bon aloi qui alterne avec de nonchalantes chansons d’amour qui ne sont pas dénuées de charme.
