Nilos et Militssa s’aiment, veulent se marier, fonder un foyer. Mais, lorsque le jeune homme annonce son projet d’union à son ami Philon, ce dernier tente de le détourner de celle qu’il veut épouser, lui prédisant, tel un oracle, qu’après une période de bonheur et de prospérité, le plus sombre des avenirs s’abattra sur son couple et sa future progéniture. Vingt ans plus tard, Nilos et Militssa ont trois enfants. Ils reçoivent Philon pour fêter leur anniversaire de mariage. C’est à ce moment-là que certains signes semblent annoncer la catastrophe que Philon avait prophétisée vingt ans plus tôt… Ecrite en 1997, la pièce de Dimítris Dimitriádis rejoint, « à la façon d’un rêve à demi oublié », « le plus vieux fonds tragique de la Grèce ». Un rêve aux accents familiaux, existentiels, mythologiques qui, à l’exemple de tous les textes de l’auteur grec, révèle une langue ample et singulière. Comme Dimítris Dimitriádis l’explique lui-même, cette langue n’a pas pour objet de couvrir, mais de révéler, dénuder, exposer, dévoiler. Ceci, afin « d’aller jusqu’à l’os, ou d’essayer de découvrir une autre chair sous la chair, une autre chair qui correspond à ce qui n’est pas encore connu et acceptable ».
