Une pièce de Claudel qui n’en finit pas de hurler sa contemporanéité, bien malgré elle, ne serait-ce qu’à travers son titre symbolique de L’Échange. Comme le dit Albert Jacquart dans Mon Utopie que cite le metteur en scène Yves Beaunesne, plutôt enclin à goûter les grands textes, c’est notre regard sur l’autre qui doit être transformé en cessant de voir en lui un adversaire – d’où l’idée d’ouverture, d’échange, de partage et de transmission. Beaunesne choisit de monter la première version de la pièce qui date de 1893 « avec sa langue aussi chargée qu’une bombe et ses personnages à la carrure de saints et de voleurs ». L’Échange donne à sentir au spectateur la quête éperdue de liberté d’un quatuor écartelé entre désir charnel et divergences politiques. Des mensonges, des dollars, de l’alcool, l’amour du théâtre et un incendie font de cette partition verbale à teneur musicale un cocktail flamboyant entre rêve et cauchemar. À voir absolument.
