Rossini n’est jamais tant à son aise que dans la farce. Avec L’Échelle de soie, dont il reprend en 1812 le livret au Français Pierre Gaveaux, il se jette avec gourmandise dans un vaudeville de la plus pure espèce. Jean-Claude Malgoire, à la tête de La Grande Écurie et la Chambre du Roy, et le metteur en scène Christian Schiaretti partagent une même vision de la scène qui privilégie l’économie de moyens et la vivacité du propos. Déjà réunis en 2005 pour Le Barbier de Séville, ils reprennent cette production de L’Échelle de soie créée à l’Atelier lyrique de Tourcoing en 2001, avec une jeune distribution emmenée par les Espagnols Ruth Rosique – dans le rôle de Giulia – et Juan Antonio Sanabria, dans celui de son secret amant, Dorvil, qui la retrouve chaque soir à l’aide de son « échelle de soie ».
