Théâtre de La tempête / de Molière / mes Philippe Adrien
« Magnifique, cinglant, violent, drôle… » : Philippe Adrien met en scène L’Ecole des Femmes ou la défaite d’une tyrannie, celle d’un homme qui met en cage sa pupille et croit ainsi verrouiller son destin et pouvoir la posséder ad vitam aeternam. « Ainsi que je voudrai, je tournerai son âme », croit le barbon obstiné, prenant sa folie pour raison véritable. La future épouse soumise et fidèle va finalement en aimer un autre et découvrir la liberté… Arnolphe, entêté et aveuglé, sera réduit à un silence interloqué. « Agnès, sous nos yeux, s’éveille aux sens, au sentiment, à la parole enfin qui, soudain conquise, constitue la véritable école de liberté », et cette quête fascine le metteur en scène.
Conquête émancipatrice
Philippe Adrien souligne que Molière a épousé à l’époque de l’écriture de la pièce la jeune et belle Armande Béjart, de vingt ans sa cadette, et que sans doute il pressent – avec raison – que « ce mariage le conduira plus vers le désastre que vers l’apaisement ». Nul doute que le metteur en scène et son équipe d’acteurs sauront faire résonner sur la scène les tensions et les enjeux de cette formidable conquête émancipatrice, et de cette implacable comédie.
