Inspiré du Décaméron de Boccace, cet ouvrage méconnu de Marco Marazzoli et Virgilio Mazzochi s’inscrit dans l’histoire de la musique comme le premier opéra italien représenté en France. C’était lors du mardi-gras de 1646, à l’initiative de Mazarin… Ici l’opéra s’incarne dans une expression résolument colorée et populaire, animée de personnages de la commedia dell’arte et de figures pittoresques de la vie italienne. Pas moins de 13 chanteurs et danseurs se partagent ainsi près de 40 rôles différents ! Correas et Monory auront à cœur de restituer toute la vivacité et la fraîcheur d’un ouvrage haut en couleur dont l’action, contant les péripéties d’un noble déchu amoureux d’une riche veuve, se concentre sur la fiera di farfa, le marché du village où tous les personnages se croisent. Présentée dans le cadre du Festival baroque de Pontoise et de la saison musicale de Royaumont, cette production marquante poursuivra son aventure à l’Athénée en octobre, puis l’hiver prochain à Massy, Herblay et Poissy.
