PHILHARMONIE / OPERA VERSION DE CONCERT
On dit souvent que Beethoven n’a écrit qu’un seul opéra, mais ce n’est pas tout à fait vrai. Neuf ans avant la création de Fidelio, il donne trois représentations de Leonore devant un parterre de soldats de l’armée napoléonienne : un fiasco. Beethoven s’attelle alors à une deuxième version ramassée en deux actes, mais ses déboires avec le directeur du théâtre conduisent l’ouvrage aux oubliettes. C’est seulement avec une troisième mouture, cette fois intitulée Fidelio, qu’il parvient à rencontrer un succès jamais démenti depuis. Pourtant, ce qui intéresse René Jacobs, c’est de faire entendre la version initiale de Leonore. Une idée séduisante qu’il mettra en œuvre à la tête du Freiburger Barockorchester sur instruments anciens, pour être au plus juste de l’esprit de Beethoven.
