Tous les enfants aiment les histoires, les héros et les péripéties. Avec Hercule, l’un des plus personnages les plus connus de la mythologie, ils sont servis ! Ce fils d’un dieu (Zeus) et d’une mortelle (Alcmène) ne subit-il pas dès sa naissance la colère d’Héra qui tente de le faire étouffer par des serpents puis lui impose douze travaux ? De cette légende célèbre, Alexis Consolato et Sarah Gabrielle tirent une comédie destinée aux enfants à partir de 6 ans. S’emparant de trois travaux : le taureau de Crète, les oiseaux du Stymphale et la descente aux Enfers, ils s’attachent à explorer la problématique du parcours initiatique « à travers les multiples rencontres qu’il génère et les différentes épreuves dont il faut triompher ». N’hésitant pas à utiliser des références contemporaines voire des anachronismes, ils mettent également en lumière, aux côtés d’Hercule, le personnage du jeune Thésée. Pour Sarah Gabrielle, qui met en scène cette comédie décalée, « tous deux montrent que l’honneur, l’intégrité et l’amitié peuvent venir à bout de la tricherie et de la mauvaise foi même d’un roi, même d’un dieu. »
