Comme chaque année depuis plus de dix ans, les Musicales de Saint-Maurice s’attachent à rendre accessible le meilleur de la musique de chambre. Le festival 2023 s’ouvre avec un trio enjambant les générations qui réunit le légendaire violoniste Augustin Dumay et l’une des figures de la relève de l’école française du violoncelle, Victor Julien-Laferrière, accompagnés par Frank Braley, dans un programme de duos et trios à géométries variables allant de Mozart à Mendelssohn et Schumann. Le lendemain, le violoncelliste François Salque et l’accordéoniste Vincent Peirani revisitent l’œuvre du Cantor de Leipzig dans un Bach Project à la confluence des répertoires. Enfin, la clôture est confiée au pianiste Iddo Bar-Shaï qui met en miroir, aux deux pôles du Romantisme, l’esthétisation de la mazurka par Chopin et Scriabine, avant de proposer un florilège de pièces descriptives de Couperin, écrites à l’époque pour le clavecin mais que les pianistes ont également inscrites à leur répertoire, et de finir sur un archétype de la sonate classique par Haydn.
