Théâtre de l’Epée de Bois / de Jean-Claude Grumberg / mes Jean-Louis Benoit
Dans les années soixante, Jean-Claude Grumberg ne sait pas encore qu’il deviendra un grand auteur de théâtre, encore moins que les pièces courtes qu’il « griffonne » alors seront un jour montées par « un metteur en scène dit ‘sérieux’, friand de classiques » : Jean-Louis Benoît. C’est sans doute le signe que son théâtre fait désormais partie du répertoire. Même si Michu, Rixe, Les Vacances et La Vocation n’ont pas atteint la célébrité de L’Atelier, ils en partagent la force comique et le regard acéré sur les préjugés. Ici, ce sont « les autres » qui terrorisent un père de famille banal, « les autres » qui lui enlèvent son pain et son travail. Comme le constate très justement le metteur en scène Jean-Louis Benoit, « la bêtise xénophobe et raciste que dénonçait Jean-Claude Grumberg il y a un demi-siècle dans ces croquis féroces sévit toujours, avec cette différence qu’elle a pris aujourd’hui ses aises, qu’elle peut courir sans raser les murs, n’avoir aucunement honte de sentir mauvais et peut s’étaler dans les programmes politiques ou dans les médias. ».
