« Je souhaite ici faire une radiographie de la famille, de ces familles qui ne jurent que par leur départ du pays pour des destinations multiples, vers là où ça va mieux : États-Unis, Canada, France, etc. Tout au long de ma vie, et aujourd’hui encore, j’ai vu passer une vraie flopée de familles misant tout dans la partance. Et c’est cela que je questionne ici. Des gens qui s’effacent d’une vie dans l’espoir d’en revivre une autre, laissant tout derrière eux. Sans se rendre compte de l’absence que cela génère. », dit Guy Régis Jr. Le dramaturge haïtien a vu partir son père quand il avait douze ans, l’a cru mort pendant des années, l’a revu à New York quand il avait trente ans et peut compter sur les doigts d’une seule main le nombre de rencontres avec lui.
