Dans les contes classiques, la présence des animaux symbolise la variété humaine. Qu’en est-il du loup ? De nombreuses civilisations relient son appétit, sa morsure et le temps destructeur : « Le loup, c’est la mort dévorante, mais aussi la survenue des ténèbres. » La leçon est plutôt sévère pour le Petit Chaperon rouge par exemple, qui doit distinguer le Bien du Mal. Pour Véronique Vella, il est plus amusant de suivre les chemins détournés et tendrement ironiques de Marcel Aymé dans l’inversion qu’il propose des rôles entre le bon et le méchant. Delphine et Marinette sortent des stéréotypes et font du loup leur ami. Le restera-t-il s’il joue encore au loup avec les petites filles ? Le regard de la metteuse en scène donne à ce spectacle scintillant des couleurs inattendues d’autant qu’Éric Ruf, ici scénographe, prend plaisir à accorder merveilleux et féerie à la fresque enfantine. Pour frémir en souriant.
