Deuxième ou troisième génération, les enfants nés là où les parents auraient préféré de pas vivre n’ont pas d’autre choix que celui de tenter de grandir hors sol. Pourtant, «un arbre à qui l’on a coupé les racines ne peut pas donner de fruits» dit Xavier Durringer. Le dramaturge dénonce la situation «déplacée» faite en France aux Français d’origine étrangère qui, s’ils sont de là-bas, sont pourtant aussi d’ici et finissent par n’être plus que «d’ici et là», dispersés, démembrés, déboussolés à force d’osciller entre une mémoire interdite et un futur impossible et de ne pas voir réalisés les principes républicains d’égalité et de fraternité. Le père, le fils et la fille font vivre dans cette pièce «leur déchirement entre amour et révolte» et évoquent chacun une génération et une certaine façon de considérer leur situation et l’immigration. Le metteur en scène Didier Delcroix a confié à Yohan Poissonneau le soin de créer une vidéo qui «mette en perspective les témoignages qui se répondent» au sein d’une scénographie épurée qui laisse toute la place à la poésie et à la colère qui sourdent du texte.
