Ces arguties-là ont la saveur désuète d’un temps passé. Un temps allégorique renvoyant à l’image diffuse mais prégnante de promenades au sein de chemins creux ou de terres herbues : promenades douces car injustifiées, heures souriantes au cours desquelles quelques flâneurs prendraient le temps de batifoler, de se perdre dans la prolifération de chemins ouvrant les voies de multiples explorations. Comme au gré d’un genre de chasse aux papillons métaphysiques, Les Diablogues de Roland Dubillard — adaptés pour la scène, en 1975, à partir de sketchs radiophoniques (Grégoire et Amédée) datant de 1953 — manifestent une forme de raffinement autant poétique qu’ontologique, un esprit de ratiocination facétieusement abusif qui projette cet enchaînement de conversations contradictoires bien au-delà de la pensée commune. Car les divers protagonistes qui s’entraînent les uns les autres vers les zones franches de l’absurde sont loin d’être de quelconques Messieurs Tout le Monde. Archétypes d’êtres à la limite du déséquilibre, ces humains fondamentalement insolites vacillent entre rationalité et force de l’imaginaire.
Une chasse aux papillons métaphysique
C’est cette ambivalence existentielle qu’investit l’écriture de Roland Dubillard, cet entre-deux joyeux, énigmatique, pénétrant, qui dessine les contours d’une matière extrêmement vivante. Un entre-deux aérien tout entier contenu dans le sourire de François Morel, dans son regard fantasque, dans sa fantaisie et sa profondeur inclassables. Sans jamais chercher l’effet, à travers un naturel d’une étonnante amplitude, il incarne candeur, surprise, impatience, excès, irritation, désinvolture…, assurant à lui seul la réussite de ces Diablogues d’une grande drôlerie. Car à ses côtés, la prestation de Jacques Gamblin ne convainc qu’à moitié. Semblant manquer de souplesse, de distance, de liberté, le comédien ne parvient pas à révéler les rêves et les mystères qui se cachent aux creux des joutes verbales conçues par l’auteur. A l’image de la mise en scène lisse et sans prise de risque d’Anne Bourgeois, Jacques Gamblin restreint ainsi l’univers de Dubillard à un seul divertissement. Un divertissement certes de bon aloi, mais singulièrement dénué d’imprévu.
