Pour le metteur en scène Simon Pilaqaj, la pièce de Mrozek est l’occasion salutaire de donner à voir l’immigration selon une vision de l’intérieur. Une réalité vécue intimement par ce fils dont le père part du Kosovo dans les années 60 pour travailler en France. Un aller que le travailleur croyait suivi d’un retour prochain au pays alors que sa famille le rejoint finalement après la chute du bloc de l’Est et l’instabilité grandissante du Kosovo. La pièce de Mrozek s’articule sur le dialogue de deux personnages dissemblables, en apparence. Le premier est un intellectuel qui a fui un pays sclérosé par la pensée unique. Le second est un paysan rongé par la misère en quête d’un eldorado impossible. « Les deux personnages sont le corps et l’esprit d’un même être », affirme l’homme de théâtre. Ils se retrouvent tous les deux dans une cave d’un quartier bourgeois européen, le soir de la Saint-Sylvestre. Un duo humain du vingt-et-unième siècle, révélateur de la problématique de l’esclavage et de l’immigration tandis que la fête des nantis au-dessus de la cave bat son plein en effluves impudiques. Un spectacle d’aujourd’hui.
