Que reste-t-il de cette société qui croyait aux bienfaits des progrès scientifiques et à l’amour libre ? En compagnie de Lucy Kirkwood, jeune autrice anglaise au succès détonnant outre-Manche, Eric Vigner plonge dans les années 70 et questionne l’héritage que va laisser toute une génération à ses enfants. Un couple de scientifiques retraités vit dans un cottage, dans les alentours dévastés d’une centrale nucléaire. Une femme, ancienne collègue, les rejoint. Démarre ainsi un thriller écologique qui traverse avec humour, profondeur et causticité les mouvements d’une société qui s’effondre.
L’échec d’une civilisation qui croyait au progrès
Eric Vigner place Lucy Kirkwood dans les pas de Marguerite Duras, dont il a beaucoup fréquenté les textes. L’écriture de la jeune femme s’inscrit pourtant dans la lignée d’un théâtre anglais mordant, agrémentée d’une expérience de scénariste de séries. Mais elle traduit, comme celle de Duras, « le constat d’une civilisation qui croyait au progrès et qui voit son échec ». Avec Dominique Valadié, Cécile Brune et Frédéric Pierrot, trio chevronné, cette « écriture nouvelle » en forme de tragi-comédie est à découvrir pour la première fois en France.
