VERSAILLES / CRÉATION FRANÇAISE
Les Fantômes de Versailles, ce sont évidemment surtout ceux de Louis XVI et de Marie-Antoinette, mais l’opéra de John Corigliano (né en 1938) convoque aussi Beaumarchais et les personnages de sa trilogie (Figaro, Suzanne, Rosine, Almaviva). Le livret de William M. Hoffman, mise en abyme multiple (Beaumarchais devient lui-même le héros de sa propre pièce), est traité par le compositeur avec beaucoup de fantaisie, entre pastiche en costume d’époque et joyeux nonsense ; il se révèle très juste dans le style bouffe. Une œuvre à découvrir dans une mise en scène de Jay Lesenger, coproduite avec le festival de Glimmerglass (États-Unis).
