Anciens élèves de l’Ecole Supérieure d’Art Dramatique de Genève, les comédiens de la compagnie Intermèdes ont eu l’occasion de travailler avec Jean-Paul Wenzel lors de leur cursus. C’est autour d’un texte de l’auteur espagnol José Sanchis Sinisterra que le metteur en scène et ses anciens étudiants ont choisi de se retrouver. Un texte qui, à travers une mise en abyme théâtrale, questionne le rôle de l’artiste, aujourd’hui, ainsi que l’avenir possible des utopies politiques et artistiques du passé. « Le premier défi que nous pose ce projet, expliquent les membres d’Intermèdes, c’est de ne pas faire des mots “compagnie” ou “collectif” des alibis ou de simples appellations…, d’essayer d’inventer ensemble, sans barrière ni hiérarchie, (…) une manière de travailler, de parler, qui redonne à chacun un vrai rôle ». Posant avec humour la question du « que faire » et du « comment faire », Les Figurants tente de trouver « la forme concrète d’une action à la fois simple et complexe, dépourvue de transcendance et convaincante, ridicule et poétique ».
