Une galère turque, un sac à bastonnade, des vieux barbons pingres et idiots, une jeunesse amoureuse et insolente, et au milieu « un habile ouvrier de ressorts et d’intrigues », le fieffé Scapin, maître ès manigances, amateur de situations perdues que son art à emmêler et démêler rend odieux aux imbéciles infatués et précieux aux sincères trop candides. C’est ce personnage qui « fait descendre une sorte de merveilleux sur les êtres, sur la vie », que Christian Esnay et les siens ont choisi d’honorer, par un spectacle allègre et joyeux, qui rend hommage à la jeunesse tout en offrant l’occasion de la réconcilier avec ses pères, une fois passé le temps du conflit et de la farce moqueuse. Véritable aventure artistique et humaine, le travail des Géotrupes (composé, du premier au dernier jour, lors de répétitions ouvertes au public) se veut fidèle à une idée vivante, vivace, généreuse et surprenante du théâtre public. Après Howard Barker et Euripide, ils trouvent en Molière un compagnon idéal pour un théâtre populaire et festif.
