Il y a 140 ans, Mallarmé s’installait à Avignon. Dépressif, il écrivait des textes qu’il pliait dans une petite boîte, et qui ne furent découverts et publiés qu’après sa mort. L’équipe des Hivernales, entourée de plusieurs artistes et avec le soutien de différentes institutions régionales (la Maison Jean-Vilar, la Chartreuse de Villeneuve-lez-Avignon…), s’est saisie de ces textes, mais aussi de cette histoire, pour imaginer une programmation ambitieuse. Anna Ventura nous livre un Faune au féminin (les 24 et 25), Charles Cré-Ange travaille sur Le Corbeau de Poe traduit par Mallarmé (le 25)… D’autres chorégraphes, ne travaillant pas directement sur la « matière Mallarmé », contribueront eux aussi à inscrire ce festival dans une atmosphère singulière, entre rêve et nostalgie : Stéphane Gladyszewski invente un parcours entre installations et performances à la Maison Jean-Vilar (du 22 au 24), la compagnie Mossoux-Bonté décline un triptyque passant d’un rapport à l’ancestral à un hypothétique futur…
Mallarmé le bel aujourd’hui
Les festivités s’ouvriront par un parcours-spectacle-événement de 3 heures intitulé Mallarmé le bel aujourd’hui, présenté du 19 au 21 février, qui mêlera création (avec notamment Andy de Groat et Martin Barré), exposition (Joëlle Molina), exploration du répertoire chorégraphique de l’époque de Mallarmé (Wilfride Piollet et Jean Guizerix ont exhumé les œuvres d’Henri Justamant et Philippe Verrièle nous livrera des « micromythobiographies » sur la danse de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle) ou de l’intérêt de Mallarmé pour la mode (Jean-Christophe Paré invente un « défilé de mode chorégraphique » avec des élèves de l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Danse de Marseille)… On ne peut que se réjouir de voir ainsi la danse au cœur d’un programme culturel d’envergure, qui valorise les liens entre les arts, le dialogue entre différentes périodes historiques, entre l’histoire et la création.
