Quel a été votre projet pour le Centre de Développement Chorégraphique ?
Emmanuel Serafini : Mon projet s’appuie essentiellement sur ce qu’a construit Amélie Grand : un festival avec une importante notoriété l’hiver, une programmation assez originale l’été avec un plateau interrégional que j’ai souhaité maintenir. Entre, il n’y avait rien. Cependant, depuis les Entretiens de Valois, le Ministère a commencé à reconnaître le rôle des Centres de Développement Chorégraphique dans l’aménagement chorégraphique du territoire. C’est un art qui nécessite des outils très spécifiques, que nous possédons. Un établissement comme le nôtre doit réussir à être un endroit de partage et de fabrication des œuvres, à créer des passerelles, et à faire cohabiter la pédagogie avec les spectacles.

Comment avez-vous conçu la programmation de cet été, en lien avec les régions PACA, Languedoc-Roussillon, et Rhône-Alpes ?
E. S. : J’ai voulu faire du Théâtre des Hivernales un lieu phare de notre action. Nous sommes passés de festival à Centre de Développement Chorégraphique, il nous fallait donc un édifice pour mettre en abri le Centre. En quittant la bohème, les lieux éclatés mal identifiés. En arrivant, j’ai trouvé un système de collaboration très original entre trois grandes régions françaises qui ont décidé de s’associer pour promouvoir la danse. J’ai conservé ce dispositif, tout en instaurant plus de clarté à travers un dossier d’appel à candidature. J’ai pu faire les choix de programmation selon une “short-list“ établie par les régions. Il me semblait important de pouvoir revendiquer la possibilité de choisir les projets portés par toute l’équipe du CDC.
Sur quels types de projets se sont arrêtés vos choix ?
E. S. : On retrouve beaucoup de compagnies qui font un travail de fusion entre la danse contemporaine et d’autres formes de danses ou d’autres disciplines artistiques. On a la chance d’avoir des jeunes auteurs à découvrir (la compagnie 2 temps 3 mouvements, Abdou N’Gom, la compagnie Malka…) et d’autres qui sont des valeurs sûres, comme Fabrice Ramalingom avec un solo créé en 2007. C’est un formidable travail qui a atteint son degré de maturité dans l’écriture et dans l’interprétation. Et puis Kubilai Khan Investigations, avec Frank Micheletti, selon moi un des danseurs les plus emblématiques de sa génération, qui a toujours travaillé dans le partage, dans le croisement, dans la recherche des identités, pas simplement autour de la danse contemporaine.
Le fait de se recentrer sur un grand théâtre n’exclut-il pas certains projets qui avaient toute leur place au studio ?
E. S. : Je considère que la danse est un art de l’espace. Apportez-moi la preuve que les œuvres sont mieux à leur place dans un espace aussi réduit que le studio ! La commission de sécurité l’année dernière a failli y empêcher les représentations. Je ne peux prendre ce genre de risque. En tant qu’établissement national, nous devons aux artistes des conditions de travail optimales. Le studio devient un lieu où l’on donne des stages et où l’on fait des rencontres professionnelles.
Quel est le positionnement de vos tutelles dans le contexte actuel ?
E. S. : Nos tutelles sont le Conseil Général, le Conseil Régional, la Ville et la DRAC. C’est ce qui fait la force de nos équipements : un rayonnement local et territorial important. Malgré cela, tout est fragile, et ce sont nos recettes propres qui financent notre activité. Si je fais un mauvais festival d’hiver, je plombe les rentrées financières de toute la structure. On n’a pas le droit à l’erreur. La clause générale de compétence permet la libre administration des collectivités par leurs élus. Sa suppression signifierait une recentralisation complète du pouvoir qui est très problématique. Dans le contexte actuel, ce sont ces financements croisés qui garantissent que ce projet est viable.
