Le texte d’Alexis Ragougneau est une sorte de cauchemar océanique ressuscitant Yves de Kerguelen et son équipage partis conquérir, à la fin du XVIIIe siècle, des terres australes pour compléter l’immense empire français. Mais la terre battue des tempêtes, austère et hostile qu’ils découvrent est loin de regorger des trésors attendus et celles qu’on appela longtemps les « îles de la Désolation » ont toujours bien porté leur surnom ! « Le vent de l’espérance », « La colère de la terre » et « L’océan de papier » : trois mouvements pour cette épopée qui met en scène le navigateur Yves de Kerguelen et ses marins, Louison, sa jeune maîtresse déguisée en mousse, le naturaliste Brugnières, Louis XV, qui agonise à Versailles pendant que les Bretons conquièrent l’Antarctique sur le Gros-Ventre et le Roland, les vaisseaux menant vers le Sud inviolé ces explorateurs ivres d’un rêve héroïque et brutal ! « Pièce sur l’égarement », Les Iles Kerguelen cartographient la désolation intérieure qui ravage ces hommes victimes de leurs illusions de conquête.
