Théâtre musical / Texte de Albert Camus/adaptation et mes Abd Al Malik
Créée en 1949 à Paris, la pièce d’Albert Camus prend pour objet l’attentat à la bombe fomenté en février 1905 à Moscou par un groupe de révolutionnaires russes contre le grand-duc Serge, oncle du tsar et gouverneur tyrannique de la ville. Fasciné par cette pièce dans laquelle il voit « la décomposition progressive d’un idéal », Abd Al Malik s’empare de l’œuvre dans laquelle la radicalité révolutionnaire se heurte, en de violents débats, au principe de vie, où sont soulevées les questions que pose le concept d’assassinat politique, et la manière dont la lutte contre l’injustice peut se retourner et virer à la folie meurtrière.
Une « tragédie musicale »
Avec l’aide de deux complices réguliers, Wallen et Bilal, qui ont composé ses albums, Ab Al Malik envisage la mise en scène de la pièce comme une « tragédie musicale », associant des thèmes musicaux à chaque personnage, introduisant un chœur composé de jeunes comédiens amateurs de Seine-Saint-Denis qui ont été impliqués dans le processus de création, en donnant au texte de Camus les accents et le rythme du slam et du hip-hop. L’intégration de la musique, jouée par six musiciens sur scène, étant, selon lui, une manière de souligner « la solitude et l’intense sincérité de l’engagement de nos Justes ainsi que la poésie et les enjeux philosophiques du texte camusien ».
