L’Ensemble « Les Caractères », dirigé par Xavier Julien-Laferrière, est
installé au Théâtre de Vanves : une résidence qui lui permet de mener à bien son
projet très spécifique d’exploration du monde musical baroque portugais. Sa
nouvelle production, qui fait suite à la révélation des Guerres du Romarin et
de la Marjolaine, nous permet de découvrir l’opéra-comique Les
Métamorphoses de Protée composé par Antònio Teixeira en collaboration avec
Antònio José da Silva (pour le livret) à Lisbonne au XVIIIe siècle. Une rareté
car peu d’ouvrages de cette époque sont parvenus intégralement jusqu’à nous. Les
derniers opéras de type portugais, à l’image de ces Métamorphoses de Protée
(As Variedades de Proteu) créées en 1739, s’apparentent à des farces
comiques et satiriques et empruntent à la fois au théâtre castillan itinérant et
à la comédie italienne. La musique de Teixeira, elle aussi, regarde du côté de
l’Italie, laissant s’épanouir un bel canto simple et touchant. Avec les voix de
Miriam Ruggeri, Simon Edwards, Arnaud Guillou, Renaud Tripathi, Virginie Fouque,
Marcos Loureiro de Sa, Guilaine Droulle. Le concert est mis en espace par
Etienne Guillot.
