Voici une dizaine d’années, le pianiste et le saxophoniste se saisissaient des Métamorphoses nocturnes, premier quatuor à cordes de György Ligeti encore sous influence Bartok, l’adaptant pour leurs instruments dans une version rebaptisée Metanuits. Fruit d’un patient travail préparatoire, ils l’ont depuis beaucoup joué, conviant parfois même des invités (le quatuor Bèla), invitant à redécouvrir cette pièce au lyrisme irradiant tout en prenant des libertés formelles à la mesure de leurs qualités d’improvisation, en des instants de jubilation ou d’introspection qui ne sont pas sans écho avec la fantasque personnalité de l’une des références majuscules de la musique contemporaine. Ils ont donc tout naturellement leur place dans ce week-end consacré au compositeur à l’occasion du centenaire de sa naissance.
