Un saint, un oblat, une enfant martyre, une mère tyrannisée par le sort, des profiteurs sans scrupules, un méchant aussi détestable que ceux qu’il traque parce qu’ils sont faits de la boue dont il s’est extrait : les misérables que décrit Hugo sont « à jamais vivants au Panthéon de l’esprit humain », dit Isabelle Bonillo. La comédienne choisit d’en narrer l’épopée avec la seule force de sa verve et de son enthousiasme. « Tant qu’il y aura sur la terre ignorance et misère, des livres de la nature de celui-ci pourront ne pas être inutiles » disait Hugo. Avec une énergie sidérante, Isabelle Bonillo incarne tous les personnages du roman, faisant naître « une interaction toute particulière dont elle a le secret » avec le public. Jean Valjean, Cosette, Gavroche, Javert ou Fantine : ils sont tous là, surgis de l’âme de l’accordéon et du souffle de l’interprète, pour redire le scandale de la faim, l’exploitation et l’humiliation, la force de la colère réclamant la justice, ainsi que la grâce extraordinaire de la confiance, du pardon et de l’amour.
