Adelheid Roosen a joué dans Les Monologues du vagin en regrettant que ce texte s’adresse principalement aux occidentales. Forte de la conviction offerte par son expérience d’actrice de la nécessité d’entendre les bijoux indiscrets et désireuse de partir à la rencontre de celles qu’on entend peu sous la chape de silence que leur impose leur condition, elle a passé de longs mois à recueillir les témoignages de « celles à qui l’on demande de s’intégrer mais à propos desquelles nous fantasmons faute de connaître leur culture ». Elle a interviewé plus de soixante-dix femmes, de dix-sept à quatre-vingt-cinq ans, issues de pays et de milieux différents, et leur a demandé de parler « de leur relation à la sensualité, à la tradition, au Coran, à la tendresse, au viol, à la maternité, à l’homosexualité, à la circoncision, au désir ». Le résultat, adapté pour la scène et trois comédiennes, dresse un portrait sensible, émouvant et drôle qui tâche de rompre avec les préjugés pour mieux faire surgir la vérité de sous le voile.
