Presque seule en scène – Karim Hammiche prenant le rôle d’un infirmier -, Leïla Anis raconte. Ella a 30 ans en 2008, elle perd connaissance en apprenant sa grossesse. Cet événement l’emporte à la rencontre de sa généalogie, où sa mère, sa grand-mère, son arrière-grand-mère subissent les contraintes qui pèsent sur les femmes : avortements clandestins, divorces honteux, cruels accouchements. Prenant l’un après l’autre ces rôles, la comédienne relie les héritages et les récits pour tisser la toile de ce monstre abstrait, qui telle une épée de Damoclès, attend les femmes au tournant. De l’évidente joie maternelle aux superstitions angoissantes et aux silences imposés, Leïla Anis pose la question de ce qui fait vraiment la femme, la mère, depuis une centaine d’années jusqu’à aujourd’hui, heure nouvelle du post-partum.
