Pour cette production des Noces de Figaro signée par Christian Gangneron et présentée en décembre dernier à l’Opéra d’Avignon, la direction musicale est confiée à Olivier Schneebeli, davantage associé au répertoire sacré baroque qu’à l’opéra du XVIIIe siècle. Pour autant, le chef n’a pas l’intention d’abandonner ses préoccupations musicales : « Le Nozze, c’est bien entendu un drame bourgeois, admet-il, mais l’essentiel c’est ce vertige de l’être humain qui se dénude totalement face à sa petitesse et c’est grâce à ses faiblesses qu’il devient grand, participant en cela à l’action sacrée ». Olivier Schneebeli entend « faire surgir le sacré » de la musique même de Mozart, dont l’élégance stylistique, dit-il, « transfigure le sordide » et permet la rédemption. Habitué à travailler, à Versailles, avec de jeunes chanteurs, il accompagne les solistes dans leur prise de rôle.
