Création mondiale / Théâtre du Châtelet
En 1964, le film Les Parapluies de Cherbourg remporte la Palme d’Or à Cannes, lance la carrière de Catherine Deneuve et marque l’un des temps forts de la collaboration fructueuse (neuf films) de l’un des tandems compositeur/ réalisateur les plus convaincants de l’Histoire du Cinéma. Comme le remarque Vincent Vittoz, « on peut presque affirmer qu’avec ce film les deux auteurs furent des précurseurs d’un nouveau genre de comédie musicale : un film entièrement chanté, ce qui est à ma connaissance une première. Pour ces représentations au Châtelet, Jean-Luc Choplin m’a offert le choix de mettre l’orchestre soit dans la fosse, soit sur scène.
Concert mis en scène
Le fait de mettre les musiciens sur la scène m’a paru évident. C’est avant tout la partition qui sera la source d’inspiration de ce spectacle conçu comme un concert mis en scène. Ainsi nous serons au plus près de l’énergie et de la force émotionnelle de cette harmonie miraculeuse existant entre le texte de Jacques Demy, si juste et universel, et les inoubliables mélodies et orchestrations de Michel Legrand ». Avec une superbe distribution : Natalie Dessay dans le rôle de Madame Emery, Laurent Naouri dans celui de Roland Cassard et Michel Legrand en personne à la direction musicale.
