Depuis quelques mois, le Centre Chorégraphique National de Tours est en crise. Que s’est-il passé ?
Bernardo Montet : Je suis lié au CCN par une convention triennale qui arrivait à son terme fin 2009 et devait être renouvelée, avec, ce qui est normal, une évaluation du projet. Elle a pointé deux choses : un manque de ressources propres, et de diffusion. Là-dessus, les tutelles (ville, département, région, DRAC) se sont arc-boutées et ont convenu qu’il était évident de revoir le projet. Avec la nomination d’un comité de suivi, j’ai dû me battre pour reconduire la convention, mais sur seulement deux ans, sachant que mon projet fait de l’accès à la culture un axe central, et tout le travail dans les quartiers amène à ce que la danse soit plus présente.

On a le sentiment que prévaut une vision comptable des choses, avec un grand intérêt donné à ce qui se voit à l’extérieur, comme les tournées. Le travail d’accès à la culture qui est très souterrain en a-t-il moins d’importance ?
B. M. : Cela n’a pas moins d’importance, et c’est même extrêmement structurant pour le CCN comme pour un artiste. C’est pour cela que j’ai souhaité avoir un lieu. Il faut que les politiques se positionnent sur le rôle de nos lieux, sur l’impact qu’ils peuvent avoir sur le développement d’une cité. Un projet artistique peut être profondément un projet de société. Cela concerne la question de l’émancipation de l’individu, qui est essentielle. Quels sont les leviers par lesquels un citoyen lambda peut passer pour qu’il s’émancipe ? Je trouve que l’art en fait partie, évidemment.
Pourtant, vous aviez été nommé sur un projet, énoncé dès le début en cohésion avec le territoire. Qu’est-ce qui a changé depuis ?
B. M. : On reprochait à mon prédécesseur de ne pas être assez dans la ville, à ses danseurs d’être des danseurs « TGV », ne venant à Tours que pour les créations. Mon projet a été retenu pour sa notion d’implication et de présence. Il y a eu depuis un changement dans la politique culturelle de la ville. Le rapport d’évaluation le pointe : au constat d’ordre technique que sont les ressources propres et la diffusion, s’ajoutent des éléments de contexte – je cite – : « La région Centre a engendré un riche patrimoine renaissance et baroque qu’il lui appartient d’entretenir, de faire évoluer et vivre. Elle pourrait donc stratégiquement se tourner vers une autre équipe chorégraphique dont les productions seraient plus en phase avec le patrimoine régional… ».
Dans quel état d’esprit êtes-vous ? Qu’est-ce que cela vous inspire ?
B. M. : L’équipe s’est complètement soudée pour défendre le projet, mais maintenant il faut penser autrement, chercher autre chose… Personnellement je suis dans une émotion extrêmement forte mais il n’y a rien qui sort, sinon un profond déchirement. J’ai envie de revenir à une compagnie indépendante, car je me rends compte des limites de l’institution. On ne peut qu’un petit peu pousser les murs, ou alors il faudrait inventer d’autres lieux. La question de la culture n’a jamais autant été au cœur des enjeux de la société, et jamais autant malmenée et mal considérée.
