S’inscrivant dans la réflexion sur la tragédie lyrique menée par la compagnie lyrique Arcal (qui accueille sa création), Thierry Pécou s’empare du texte des Sacrifiés de Laurent Gaudé. L’ouvrage évoque les thèmes de la malédiction, du sacrifice, de la maltraitance faite aux femmes, de la guerre d’Algérie ou encore du fanatisme religieux. « Le tragique, au fond, c’est la complexité ambiguë de toute situation, la réversibilité de l’histoire (l’opprimé devient l’oppresseur par exemple). Ce qui m’intéressait en composant, aidé par le texte de Laurent Gaudé très imprégné des structures de la tragédie grecque, c’était que la musique permette aux personnages de s’incarner avec une force tranchante, presque magique, c’était de donner au texte une portée physique », explique le compositeur. Avec l’Ensemble TM+ et Laurent Cuniot (direction musicale), Christian Gangneron pour la mise en scène et les voix de Sevan Manoukian, Sylvia Vadimova et Jacqueline Mayeur dans les principaux rôles.
