Maison prestigieuse et haut lieu de la distinction sociale, le Théâtre de l’Odéon pourrait se contenter de laisser venir à lui les spectateurs. Mais son directeur, Olivier Py, a décidé d’aller à ceux qui ne viennent pas forcément au théâtre, sans démagogie et avec un souci politique qui use de l’excellence artistique comme instrument d’une communauté élargie. Sa mise en scène des Sept contre Thèbes, inventée en toute légèreté pour deux comédiens et une télévision, se déplace dans plusieurs lieux de la capitale qui ne sont pas dévoués au spectacle afin de partir à la rencontre de ceux qui viendront peut-être ainsi grossir le public des salles institutionnelles. Nazim Boudjenah et Mireille Herbstmeyer s’emparent avec une intensité et une vérité magnifiques des mots de l’antique poète et font résonner leur actualité et leur pertinence avec force, prouvant ainsi l’incroyable puissance heuristique du verbe quand il est soutenu par la conviction et le talent. Les deux comédiens disent le récit du siège de Thèbes, la lutte fratricide entre les derniers Labdacides et le combat qui oppose la force des mots et le règne brutal des images. Une très belle et très forte proposition, retrouvant en son texte comme en son projet l’essence du théâtre occidental.
