Créés en 1953 par le violoncelliste et chef d’orchestre Antonio Janigro, les Solistes de Zagreb ont connu un véritable rayonnement international au cours des années 60-80. Mais autant l’avouer, on avait totalement perdu de vue cet ensemble depuis la guerre qui a déchiré l’ex-Yougoslavie mais aussi en raison de la concurrence depuis deux décennies de dizaines d’orchestres de chambre baroques de très haut niveau dans toute l’Europe. En quête d’une nouvelle identité artistique, l’ensemble croate vient de confier sa direction au violoncelliste français Marc Coppey. « Notre souhait commun d’explorer un vaste répertoire avec un engagement égal est au cœur de notre projet, tout comme celui de nous ouvrir à de nouveaux publics. J’ai le désir profond de préserver le merveilleux esprit de cet ensemble, tout en explorant ensemble de nouveaux territoires, du baroque à l’avant-garde » confie Coppey qui, pour le grand concert marquant le retour sur la scène parisienne de son ensemble, a choisi des œuvres d’Amando Ivancic (Sinfonia pour cordes, n° 9), Haydn (Concerto pour violoncelle, n° 1 en do majeur, Hob/VIIb.1), Ivo Malec (“Lumina” pour cordes et bande magnétique) et Tchaïkovski (Sérénade pour cordes, en ut majeur, op. 48).
