Le Livre de Job raconte l’épreuve que Dieu fait subir à Job, pour vérifier l’étendue et l’authenticité de sa vertu, de sa probité et de sa piété. Job, affligé par la perte de ses biens, la mort des siens et la lèpre qui ronge son corps, refuse de maudire son créateur. Magnifique modèle de foi, qui perd cependant de sa valeur et de son sens si Dieu n’existe pas… Telle est l’hypothèse que suit Hanokh Levin dans sa réécriture satirique de la parabole biblique. Job souffre en vain et finit empalé : tant pis pour lui ! La violence est absurde et la souffrance est insensée : « nous souhaitons mêler ce cri de désespoir à notre palpitation joyeuse de jeunes acteurs, avec l’espoir vif que ce théâtre de la cruauté a un pouvoir d’ouverture et peut être déclencheur si ce n’est d’action, au moins de pensée, de discussion et de remise en question » dit Léa Guillec. Six comédiens et vingt-et-une marionnettes (avec la surprise inventive d’une distribution tournante) animent cette joyeuse et effroyable farce.
