Irrigué par la diversité musicale que charrie le vaste Congo, les Tambours de Brazza ont tout autant puisé à d’autres sources musicales, celles qu’a pratiquées leur fondateur et directeur, Emile Biayenda. Depuis 1991, loin de rester ancré dans le registre traditionnel, ce batteur a composé un répertoire où les rythmes du cru résonnent sur des rythmiques plus proches du jazz, voire du funk et du hip-hop. Pas question pour celui que l’on apprécie aussi aux côtés du pianiste Benoît Delbecq de servir la même tambouille que les grands anciens, aussi bonne soit-elle. Non, il s’agit avant tout de célébrer la richesse de ce patrimoine séculaire en le confrontant aux nouvelles manières de faire, pour le plaisir conjugué des corps et des âmes.
