Sidéré par « la violence et la beauté » du théâtre de Sophocle, Wajdi Mouawad donne corps à un désir qu’il nourrit depuis près de vingt ans : retourner à l’auteur qui lui a donné envie d’écrire. L’écrivain et metteur en scène accomplit ce voyage en compagnie de Robert Davreu, poète à qui il a demandé de réaliser une nouvelle traduction française des sept tragédies de Sophocle ayant traversé les siècles dans leur entièreté. Avant d’élaborer, lors des saisons à venir, le diptyque Des Héros (Ajax, Œdipe roi) puis celui Des Mourants (Œdipe à Colone, Philoctète), Wajdi Mouawad (artiste associé au Grand T, à Nantes) a créé, en juin dernier, la première partie de ce projet : la trilogie Des Femmes. Aujourd’hui présentée dans la grande salle du Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers (pièce par pièce, ou en version intégrale), cette trilogie éclaire trois impulsions existentielles : celle d’Electre, qui met en œuvre son désir de vengeance familiale ; celle d’Antigone, qui fait valoir sa soif de justice au sein de la cité ; celle de Déjanire, qui se laisse aller au désespoir par amour.
Sylvie Drapeau : une Déjanire pleine de noblesse
Dans Les Trachiniennes, la femme d’Héraclès voit les mauvais présages qui planaient sur la tête de ce dernier se réaliser. Une prophétie avait en effet prédit qu’il mourrait de la main d’un défunt. Lorsque Déjanire enduit une tunique destinée à son époux avec le sang du centaure Nessos (afin de s’assurer son amour et sa fidélité, suivant en cela le procédé que la créature lui a indiqué, par vengeance, avant de succomber à un coup porté par le héros des douze travaux), elle ne sait pas qu’elle condamne Héraclès à disparaître dans d’atroces souffrances. Incapable de supporter l’idée du crime qu’elle vient malgré elle de commettre, la fille d’Œnée et d’Althée complète le tableau du tragique en choisissant de mettre fin à ses jours. Comme souvent chez Wajdi Mouawad, excès lyriques et exaltations romantiques sont au rendez-vous de cette version musicale de la tragédie de Sophocle (Igor Quezada chante le rôle du chœur, en alternance avec Bertrand Cantat qui cosigne la musique du spectacle). Sans provoquer de grands mouvements d’âme, ces Trachiniennes offrent quelques jolies images scéniques et permettent de redécouvrir une pièce rarement mise en scène. Au sein d’une distribution très inégale, Sylvie Drapeau attire tous les regards. Elle crée une Déjanire pleine de noblesse et de dignité.
