C’est en 1981 qu’a été organisée la première Semaine théâtrale de Bayonne. Devenu un festival annuel, puis (depuis 2009) biennal, ce rendez-vous basque de l’art dramatique (qui est la seule manifestation française régulière dédiée à la création théâtrale ibérique et latino-américaine) s’est imposé, en 30 ans, comme l’un des moments forts de notre calendrier théâtral. Un moment de découvertes fait d’exigence et de convivialité, grâce auquel des publics variés peuvent s’ouvrir aux univers artistiques de créateurs venus de l’autre côté des Pyrénées comme de l’autre côté de l’océan Atlantique. Pour cette édition 2011, Jean-Marie Broucaret, directeur artistique des Translatines, a choisi de mettre à l’honneur des jeunes artistes, et plus particulièrement des jeunes artistes chiliens. « Ce trentième festival, déclare-t-il, nous avons souhaité le tourner, peut-être encore plus radicalement, vers la jeunesse. Regarder ce qu’elle nous montre, écouter ce qu’elle nous fait entendre, de notre monde et de nous-mêmes. Ces créateurs, chiliens notamment, mais aussi mexicains, argentins, ou espagnols, qui ont entre vingt et trente ans, portent un regard aigu et personnel sur le passé, s’emparent sans complexe du présent et scrutent nos avenirs. »
Plein feu sur le jeune théâtre chilien
« On peut parler de ce point de vue, poursuit Jean-Marie Broucaret, d’un véritable printemps chilien, tant sont nouvelles et actuelles les approches de Guillermo Calderón, Cristián Plana, Lorna González, Luis Barrales, Alejandro Moreno, Paula González, Ana Harcha Cortés ou de la Patriótico Interesante. On retrouve à travers elles, par-delà l’océan, des questionnements qui sont aussi les nôtres… »Des questionnements qui traversent les thématiques de l’aliénation physique et mentale (Comida alemana ; Afasia, los olvidados de la dictadura), des conflits entre matière et esprit (Te haré invencible con mi derrota), des tourments du cheminement poétique (Viento del pueblo), de la lutte contre l’asphyxie sociale, contre les discriminations et la standardisation de la société (El viento en un violín ; Lulú ; Kadogo, niño soldado ; ñi pú tremen, mis antepasados), du vide qui fait face au mystère d’une disparition (Amarillo)… Et si cette édition 2011 des Translatines propose aux publics la découverte de nombreux artistes encore inconnus en France, elle sonnera également le temps des retrouvailles avec des habitués du festival comme Vicente Pradal ou l’Argentin Claudio Tolcachir, et sera l’occasion d’applaudir, à Bayonne, l’Espagnole Angélica Liddell, l’une des révélations du Festival d’Avignon 2010.
