Voilà des années que Lev Dodine explore les plis de l’âme, creusant les fissures taillées à même la vie par la plume de Tchékhov, cruellement lucide et indulgente. Pour le maître russe, le théâtre est une recherche infinie de la perfection et se joue dans la durée, à l’aune d’une vie d’homme. Avec Les Trois Sœurs, pièce fichée à la charnière du 20e siècle comme un présage des illusions à venir, il sonde la béance tragique qui sépare les rêves de la réalité et dessine à la pointe sèche le portrait d’une intelligentsia pataugeant dans l’ennui et les amours impossibles, fuyant la violence sourde des espoirs déçus dans la quête d’un ailleurs meilleur. « Il s’agit d’un pan entier de vie vu par Tchekhov à travers sa personnalité, son imagination, la perception douloureuse de sa maladie, sa vision à la fois sceptique et optimiste de la vie telle qu’elle nous échappe parfois, indépendamment de nos désirs et de nos aspirations. » dit-il. Les acteurs du Mali Théâtre, saisissants de vérité, portent avec finesse ces personnages pris dans l’entrelacs complexe de leurs contradictions, entre conversations absurdes et grands débats philosophiques, entre cahots des cœurs et projets avortés. Toujours dignes dans le naufrage.
