C’est un projet familial que Volodia Serre propose au public du Théâtre de l’Athénée pour ce deuxième spectacle du cycle Tchekhov. Un projet au sein duquel le metteur en scène interprètera lui-même le personnage d’Andreï Prozorov, aux côtés de ses trois propres sœurs dans les rôles d’Olga, de Macha et d’Irina. « Ce choix me livre une arme scénique puissante, explique-t-il, une matière humaine dense pour proposer une vision très personnelle de la représentation de la fratrie. (…) La richesse de nos archives, en particulier les films Super 8 de notre enfance, servira de matériau, de terreau pour raconter celle de la pièce. » Puisant ainsi dans leur propre histoire familiale, Volodia, Alexandrine, Joséphine et Léopoldine Serre souhaitent mettre leurs souvenirs et leurs secrets « au service de ce que Tchekhov ne cesse de vouloir raconter entre les lignes de sa pièce ».
