Quarante ans après les Double-Six, le jazz vocal « made in France » relève la tête. « L’excellence de tous ces chanteurs est impressionnante. Le jazz français avait besoin d’un renouveau du groupe vocal. C’est fait » s’enthousiasme justement Mimi Perrin en personne, la fondatrice du mythique groupe du début des années 60. Sous l’impulsion de leur directeur musical Thierry Lalo, pianiste, arrangeur et compositeur, le groupe les Voice Messengers s’impose imparablement par sa musicalité, son swing et son brio vocal. Huit chanteurs triés sur le volet, des arrangements inventifs et efficaces, et une rythmique qui sait faire parler le groove font de ce nouvel album « Lumières d’Automne » (chez Black and Blue), enregistré après deux ans de tournée, une réussite marquante. Autre particularité du projet des Voice Messengers : son répertoire se partage entre standards et compositions originales (Lalo, Laurent Cugny) servant d’écrins aux textes de grands poètes (L’Albatros de Baudelaire, Les Cloches d’Apollinaire…).
