En 1999, dans l’attente des résultats d’un dépistage du SIDA, Annie Ernaux retrouve les émotions d’un événement vécu trente ans plus tôt, et entreprend d’en faire le récit. En 1963, à vingt-trois ans, avant que les lois Neuwirth et Weil ne légalisent la contraception et l’IVG, elle subit le sort que les « 343 salopes » revendiquèrent pour manifester l’iniquité faite aux femmes, et dut interrompre la grossesse qu’elle ne voulait pas vivre. Conditions sanitaires scandaleuses, opprobre morale, culpabilité entretenue par une société phallocrate et imbécile : Annie Ernaux évoque les conditions extérieures de ce drame. Mais elle décrit aussi ses conditions intimes, psychologiques et physiques, la douleur, la honte et la difficulté de préférer la liberté à la vie. Jean-Michel Rivinoff a imaginé une petite forme théâtrale adaptée du récit d’Annie Ernaux, afin « de faire entendre l’authenticité puissante et étonnante d’un texte qui plonge au plus profond d’un être pour s’ouvrir vers l’universel ». Porté par Catherine Vuillez, seule en scène, ce spectacle joue de la proximité avec le public pour rendre au mieux le lien entre « indicible et impudeur », qui fait la matière du récit.
