Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier / de Marivaux / mes Emmanuel Daumas
Après La Pluie d’été de Duras au Vieux-Colombier puis Candide de Voltaire au Studio-Théâtre, Emmanuel Daumas revient au Français avec une pièce de Marivaux écrite… pour les Comédiens-Italiens. Datant de 1733, cette comédie explore le thème de la fidélité de façon aussi impertinente que savoureuse. La Comtesse (Claire de la Rüe du Can) revendique sa liberté amoureuse, passant de Dorante au Chevalier Damis. Comme souvent chez Marivaux, se met en place un jeu de masques où la Marquise, amoureuse du Chevalier, feint de vouloir épouser Dorante pour provoquer la jalousie de la Comtesse, tandis que les valets jouent en contrepoint une comédie similaire. Jamais montée dans la Maison de Molière, la pièce est pour Emmanuel Daumas « un précipité des thèmes qui traversent entièrement l’œuvre de Marivaux » et ne garde « que l’essentiel : l’ineffable qui habite le cœur des gens ». Le metteur en scène opte pour un dispositif bifrontal permettant « de mieux observer cette maxime de Marivaux – qui n’appartient quasiment qu’à lui seul – selon laquelle il n’existe aucune connexion réellement logique à l’intérieur des êtres. »
